[read more...] why carnegie? the carnegie heritage centre is a resource that can be accessed by people with an interest in both local and family history. the centre has an amazing wealth of data about hull's history and people's memories of it. the enthusiastic volunteers spend hours cataloguing old and new data and are always on hand to help visitors with their queries. people are welcome to come in and look at the books, maps, box files etc. whether it be for individual study, family history research or just curiosity. [read more...] what do we do? as well as protecting and preserving the former library as a building of architectural and historical significance, we provide a resource that can be put to good use by virtue of this preservation. as well as providing a home for the activities of the heritage centre, and being run entirely by volunteers, we also house a book binding business and a base of operations for several societies and regular functions. family & local history the centre run a course in family history on a monday morning which lasts five weeks during term time, with a two hour session per week. we hold a comprehensive range of resources useful to anyone wanting to learn more about local history, from books and maps to street directories and postcards – and more besides. the local history course which was run on wednesday mornings has had to close due to malcolm scott retireing. we are hoping to run a monthly talk on the second wednesday of each month to see how that goes. the first talk will be a film show of old films showing the development of hull after ww2 on 14th september, 10am to 12 noon. for more information please contact liz shepherd at the centre.
